Title: Butoh Kitchen (Series)

Measurements: variable

Material: performance / photo prints

Year: 2014 – ongoing

First staged in Japanese restaurants, Butoh became famous as the dance-theatrical art form of ‘to resist fixity’ after WW II.

‘Butoh Kitchen 01’, performed on a public located kitchen table in Sao Paulo’s Japanese Quarter (hosting the largest Japanese community outside Japan), proclaims resistance against the Number One of all Japanese social rules – ‘Don’t climb the table’ – in an expressive food-driven debate about the contradictions in global human misery and its possibilities of transformation.
