berliner hazelnut liquor

this is one of the recipes lynn, cheree and me made this week with the nuts we collected at berlin’s street. we actually use one bottle of vodka (750ml) took some out of the bottle, placed the nuts (about 160g), sugar (about 135g), vanilla extract. we will see in two months if it tastes good. but until then, here is the recipe:

RECIPE

1 part Hazelnuts

1 part Sugar (or less if you like it less sweet)

1 Vanilla Pod

3 parts Vodka, Schnapps, or other spirits

1 clean jar

Clean and de-shell the hazelnuts. Place them on a baking tray and bake in a medium hot oven for about 5-10 minutes until they are toasted. Let them cool. Chop the hazelnuts into a thick pieces, place in clean jar. Add sugar, vanilla pod and spirits. Shake to dissolve the sugar. Keep in a cool, dark place, shaking once or twice a week. Your liquor is ready after 4 weeks.
